Jaroslav Černi Water Institute was founded in 1947 and over time has transformed into a notable, leading-edge organization, not only in the immediate region, but also across the globe, having successfully implemented large and complex projects in more than thirty different countries.
Today, JCWI is staffed by qualified and experienced scientific and engineering talents, has access to superior equipment, and applies cutting‐edge technologies in addressing major challenges in the water and environmental sectors. More than half of JCWI employees hold advanced degrees from highly acclaimed educational institutions with a significant number also being distinguished researchers and associate professors.
JCWI’s development focus is on achieving superior results, using state‐of‐the‐art research and engineering methods, and applying advanced technologies and sophisticated instrumentation in the implementation of its innovative solutions.
Our multidisciplinary teams are specialized for resolving problems related to: Dams and Reservoirs, Hydro Power Plants, Water Supply, Sewage and Treatment of Wastewater, Irrigation and Drainage, Flood Protection and River and Basin Regulation, Mines, Infrastructure, Water Management and Environmental Protection.
JCWI’s substantial references include: numerous water management facilities including flood protection structures; the development and implementation of studies, plans, programs, and water management strategies; and active participation in the design and construction of all major water‐related projects in Serbia and region, including research, investigations, studies, designs, supervision and monitoring. JCWI also supports Serbian water sector international efforts in particular within the scope of the: International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) and the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC); Development of groundwork for negotiations and drafting of bilateral agreements with Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro. Water for Sustainable Development and Adaptation to Climate Change – UNESCO II Category centre is established within the JCWI.
JCWI has several laboratories (Hydraulics, Water Quality, Sedimentology and Soil Physics), field and lab equipment, extensive databases, a Documentation and information centre, and Educational and training centre, to support all activities within its scope.
Our close co-operation with the different clients from public and private sector as well as the funding organizations are based on achieving the best technical characteristics and economic benefits of the projects, as well as meeting the environmental goals, all in order to meet the Investor demands.
Our most important investors are: Electric power industries of Serbia, Republic of Srpska and Montenegro, Republic of Serbia Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Republic Water Directorate, Public water management companies “Srbijavode” and “Vode Vojvodine”, as well as the City of Belgrade and numerous of the local governments, with their utilities. Our reliable investors are also great industrial systems, like Srbijagas, HIP Petrohemija, Transnafta, Al Rawafed, and Rio Tinto. At the international level, our main clients and partners are international water organizations as well as various bodies within the European Union, above all the Danube and Sava River Basin Commissions.
